Can my landlord charge a fee just because I have an ESA pet?
No. The Fair Housing Act prohibits landlords from charging pet rent, deposits, or breed/size surcharges for Emotional Support Animals. These protections apply as long as you have a valid ESA letter from a licensed practitioner.
Support Pets allows you to request an ESA letter that includes the required legal information: license number, date, and confirmation of need. We only provide ESA letters for dogs and cats.
